What is Walk a Mile?

This event is an official walk of Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence. Walk a Mile in Her ShoesŪ events are a playful opportunity for men (and women) to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations to men's sexualized violence against women. The goal of the event is to bring awareness to the issues of gender violence, teen dating violence and sexual assault, while promoting positive and healthy gender relations.

What is the money for?

Proceeds from the event benefit Emmaus House Domestic Violence Shelter and Community Solutions. Funds raised will provide services to promote the safety and healing of survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as promote vital education to help end gender violence in our community.

Is fundraising required?

Fundraising is not required, but this event exists to provide support to survivors of sexual assault and to create awareness in the community about the impact of gender violence on individuals and the community. Whether and how much you fundraise is up to you, though we do encourage participants to set a $100 fundraising goal. Once you register, you will get your own customizable pledge page, which you can easily share with family and friends through social media and other outlets. We think you will be surprised how many people are happy to support you in your effort to make a difference in your community!

Are there prizes for fundraising?

Prizes are awarded to the individual and the team raising the most money.

Do I have to wear heels?

No, you can walk in whatever footwear you choose. However, wearing heels is much of the fun!

Are heels provided?

Heels are provided for all male registrants. Sorry ladies, you'll have to bring your own.

I heard that there's going to be a raffle this year. How do I buy tickets?

You heard correctly! After the walk, we will be raffling off a variety of gift cards, baskets and other goodies. Tickets can be purchased at the event: $2 per ticket or $10 for 6 ticketsAll proceeds from the raffle benefit Emmaus House and Community Solutions.

Do you need volunteers?

Absolutely! Volunteers help make this event magical. You can sign-up as a volunteer on the Registration tab. You can sign-up either as an individual or as part of a team. During registration, you will be asked to indicate what times you would like to volunteer. And yes, you can volunteer AND walk!
